Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) – Utilization of Hydroxyl Radical and Singlet Oxygen

چکیده

Considering the nature of organic contaminants in water, methods their oxidative decomposition seem to be most appropriate for removal from contaminated water. There are a lot chemical oxidation, however, Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) suitable technologies removal. AOPs belong group processes that efficiently oxidize compounds towards harmless inorganic products such as water or carbon dioxide. The have shown great potential treatment pollutants low high concentrations and found applications various types contamination. hydroxyl radical (•OH) is oxidizing agent used at drive contaminant decomposition. It powerful, non-selective oxidant, which reacts very rapidly with compounds. Another strong agent, singlet oxygen, can generated by photosensitization phthalocyanines. Phthalocyanines molecules based on pyrrol structures connected mainly methionine groups (–CH=) having metallic central atom. Illumination upon specific wavelengths initiates formation oxygen attack contaminants.

Designing photoluminescent molecular probes for singlet oxygen, hydroxyl radical, and iron–oxygen species

Metabolism of molecular oxygen in the human body inevitably produces reactive oxygen species (ROS). Among the family of ROS, those exhibiting very high reactivities, including _OH, _OOH, ONOO , HOCl, HOBr, and O2, remain relatively underexplored. While emerging evidence suggests that these ROS are critically involved in physiological function as well as the genesis and development of diseases, ...

Kinetic and Thermodynamic Studies on the Reactivity of Hydroxyl Radicals in Wastewater Treatment by Advanced Oxidation Processes

The removal of dyes from wastewater, is one of the major environmental concerns due to their high color density, and they are toxic at even low concentrations. Adsorption process by advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) has been found to be a more effective method than classical methods for treating dye-containing wastewater. This research, is to investigate the decolorization abilities of az...

HOCl-dependent singlet oxygen and hydroxyl radical generation modulate and induce apoptosis of malignant cells.

The lack of extracellular superoxide anion production by non-transformed cells prevents H2O2/peroxidase-mediated HOCl synthesis by these cells, as well as apoptosis induction by exogenous HOCl. In contrast, transformed cells generate extracellular superoxide anions and HOCl, and die by apoptosis after HOCl/superoxide-dependent hydroxyl radical generation at their membrane. Tumor cells prevent H...

Generation of hydroxyl radicals and singlet oxygen during oxidation of rhododendrol and rhododendrol-catechol

The generation of hydroxyl radicals and singlet oxygen during the oxidation of 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butanol (rhododendrol) and 4-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-2-butanol (rhododendrol-catechol) with mushroom tyrosinase in a phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) was examined as the model for the reactive oxygen species generation via the two rhododendrol compounds in melanocytes. The reaction was performed in the p...
